What is a Multi-Tar?

Very large files have to be split into multiple units in order to be downloadable. 'Tar' is a data compression format that packs files into parcels of varying size and also unpacks them again later.

How do I recognise Multi-Tar files?

Multi-Tar file names end with sequential numbers. For example, the following archive files feature seven individual data parcels:

  • Archiv.tar.001
  • Archiv.tar.002
  • Archiv.tar.003
  • Archiv.tar.004
  • Archiv.tar.005
  • Archiv.tar.006
  • Archiv.tar.007

The Avosound order confirmation will inform you if the product is a Multi-Tar download.
